LawAccounting vs Soluno
Soluno is now Actionstep Legal Accounting, after Actionstep bought it in 2023. It's a capable cloud legal accounting product. LawAccounting covers the same core accounting on Salesforce, with CaseQube for practice management and settlements in the same system.

LawAccounting and CaseQube share one set of records on a platform many firms already use.
Real-time trust alerts.
Overdraft and commingling alerts, with an approval trail on every trust transfer.
Built for settlements and multiple entities.
Settlement splits, lien tracking and disbursement statements, plus consolidated reporting across entities.
Where each product comes from
Soluno was built to move legal accounting off the desktop and into the cloud, covering time, billing, trust and the general ledger. Actionstep, a practice management vendor, acquired Soluno in September 2023 and later renamed it Actionstep Legal Accounting. It's sold as a standalone legal accounting system or alongside Actionstep's practice management, and it's available in North America only.
LawAccounting is legal accounting built on Salesforce. It runs on its own or with CaseQube, which adds intake, matters, documents and settlements on the same Salesforce records.
Both products handle core legal accounting well. The differences are the platform, the practice work around the books and how a firm's entities roll up.

Salesforce legal accounting software
LawAccounting runs on Salesforce, so accounting sits on the same platform as CaseQube's intake, matters and documents. Firms that already use Salesforce keep everything in one system their team knows.
Trust alerts before month-end
Many trust problems are found at reconciliation, after the transaction has already posted. LawAccounting gives each client and matter its own trust ledger with real-time balances, alerts you to overdrafts and commingling, and records an approval trail when earned fees move to operating.
Settlement accounting for contingency firms
Personal injury and other contingency firms need to split a settlement between fees, liens, medical bills and the client. LawAccounting, with CaseQube, calculates the splits, tracks liens and produces a disbursement statement for the client.
Multi-entity law firm accounting
LawAccounting runs multi-entity and multi-office accounting in one system, with consolidated reporting across entities. If your firm operates more than one entity, ask Actionstep to show you how its reporting handles them.
Payables approvals and practice-group reporting
Bills in LawAccounting go through approval routing before payment runs, and every vendor keeps its own ledger and 1099 tracking. Partners can see profitability by matter, attorney and practice group, drill into any figure and compare budget to actual.
Which platform is right for your firm
Choose Actionstep Legal Accounting if you've already chosen Actionstep for practice management, your firm operates in North America, and its core accounting, trust and reporting cover what you need.
Choose LawAccounting if you want accounting and practice management on Salesforce, handle settlements with liens and disbursements, need consolidated reporting across entities, or want payables approvals and practice-group reporting in the same system as your matters.
Three questions worth asking any vendor
- "Show me what happens when I try to disburse $5,000 from a matter ledger holding $3,000." The answer tells you whether the system warns you before the problem posts or only reports it later.
- "Where does accounting sit in your product plans?" After an acquisition, it's fair to ask how the accounting product is prioritized.
- "How does my data come out?" The cost of any future switch depends on how cleanly you can export your records.
