What the LawAccounting and Talli partnership does

LawAccounting is legal accounting software built on Salesforce. Talli is a payment platform for organizations that pay out other people’s money, such as law firms, settlement administrators and trustees.

Talli is now built into LawAccounting. Firms can send settlement payouts, vendor payments and other matter payments from the matter record. Each client picks how they want to be paid. The status of every payment flows back into LawAccounting for reconciliation and reporting.

Paying clients still takes too many steps

Preparing a disbursement is only part of the job. Someone still has to send the payment, track it and match the result to the right matter and ledger entry. When that work happens in separate systems, staff re-enter the same information and spend hours checking that the records agree.

Checks cost time and money

Printing, mailing, voiding and reissuing checks. Postage and positive pay fees come with every one.

Clients wait for their money

A mailed check can take weeks to arrive and clear. In the meantime, clients call the office asking where it is.

Uncashed checks sit in trust

Stale checks hold up three-way reconciliation. Money that is never collected eventually has to go through your state’s unclaimed property process.

Records are spread out

Payment files sit at the bank, status updates sit in email, and entries sit in the ledger. Pulling them together for a bar audit is slow work.

How payouts work with LawAccounting and Talli

  1. Step 1: Start the payout from the matter

Open the matter in LawAccounting and choose who gets paid and how much. Client settlement payouts, vendor payments and matter expenses all start from the same place.

  2. Step 2: Your client chooses how to be paid

Talli sends the client a secure link by email or text. They pick ACH, prepaid card, PayPal, Venmo, gift card or check. They don’t need to create an account.

  3. Step 3: Talli verifies and sends the payment

Every payee goes through KYC and OFAC screening before money is released. Failed or unclaimed payments go into one exception queue, and Talli sends reminders to clients who haven’t responded.

  4. Step 4: The result posts back to LawAccounting

Payment status flows back to the matter and the ledger, ready for reconciliation and reporting.

What changes for your firm

Fewer checks to print and chase

Payouts go out from LawAccounting in one step. Nobody has to upload payment files to the bank.

Clients get paid sooner

Clients who pick a digital method don’t wait on the mail. Your staff take fewer calls asking where the money is.

Less money stuck in trust

When clients choose how they get paid, more of them collect. Fewer uncashed checks sit in your trust account.

One record for every payout

Each payment carries an audit trail with screening results, approvals and status. If the bar or a court asks how funds were paid, the answer is in one place.

1099s handled

Talli produces 1099s and distribution reports for each payout.

Payment choice

Let each client choose how they get paid

Some clients want the money in their bank account this week. Some don’t have a bank account at all. Talli gives each one a choice.
